AURAT adalah bagian dari tubuh manusia yang wajib ditutupi dari
pandangan orang lain dengan pakaian. Bagi seorang muslim, menampakkan
aurat kepada orang yang bukan mahram dianggap melanggar syariat dan
dihukumi sebagai sebuah dosa.
Selama ini, jika kita berbicara masalah aurat, maka objek bahasan
selalu wanita. Padahal, Jumhur fuqaha’ telah bersepakat bahwa aurat juga
berlaku bagi kaum laki-laki, yaitu antara pusar sampai dengan lutut.
Imam Nawawi rahimahullah di dalam penjelasan Shahih Muslim sebagai
berikut: “Sesungguhnya paha termasuk bagian dari aurat. Banyak hadits
masyhur yang menjelaskan bahwa paha adalah termasuk aurat. Hal itu
seperti hadits Anas radhiyallahu ‘anhu bahwa jika terbukanya paha tanpa
unsur kesengajaan serta dalam kondisi darurat masih dapat dimaafkan.
Tetapi bila masih ada sarana yang memungkinkan untuk menutupnya, maka
hukumnya wajib untuk menutupnya.”

Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam bersabda, “Seorang lelaki
tidak boleh melihat aurat laki-laki yang lain dan seorang wanita tidak
boleh melihat aurat wanita lain.” (HR. Muslim no. 338)
Hal ini dikarenakan memandang aurat orang lain bisa menimbulkan
fitnah yang keji, sehingga Allah Azza wa Jalla memerintahkan kita untuk
menundukkan pandangan.
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala berfirman: “Katakanlah kepada orang
laki-laki yang beriman: Hendaklah mereka menahan pandangannya dan
memelihara kemaluannya; yang demikian itu adalah lebih suci bagi mereka,
sesungguhnya Allah Maha Mengetahui apa yang mereka perbuat.” (An-Nuur:
30)
Demikian pula Allah Azza wa Jalla memerintahkan hamba-hamba-Nya yang
wanita: “Katakanlah kepada wanita yang beriman: Hendaklah mereka menahan
pandangannya dan memelihara kemaluannya, dan janganlah menampakkan
perhiasannya, kecuali yang (biasa) nampak daripadanya.” (An-Nuur: 31)
Ibnu Katsir rahimahullah berkata di dalam tafsirnya menjelaskan
tentang ayat ini: “Ini adalah hukum Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala kepada
hamba-Nya orang-orang mukmin untuk menundukkan pandangan mereka terhadap
apa-apa yang dilarang memandangnya. Kecuali memandang apa yang
diperbolehkan memandangnya, hendaklah mereka menundukkan pandangan
mereka terhadap apa yang diharamkan.
Tetapi bila tidak sengaja memandang, hendaklah segera memalingkan
pandangan darinya. Allah juga menyuruh untuk menjaga kemaluan
sebagaimana Dia menyuruh menjaga pandangan yang membangkitkan nafsu
syahwat, karena keduanya akan mengarah kepada kerusakan hati dan akhlak.
Menjaga pandangan mata dan kemaluan akan mencegah dan menjauhkan orang
mukmin dari zina yang keji.” (Tafsir Ibnu Katsir)
Dalam permasalahan ini (aurat laki-laki), Ibnu ‘Abbas radhiyallahu
‘anhuma berkata, bahwa Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam bersabda, “Paha
termasuk bagian dari aurat.” (HR. Bukhari)
Dari Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Jahsy radhiyallahu ‘anhu bahwasanya di
halaman masjid, Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam lewat di depan Ma’mar
dan terbukalah ujung paha Ma’mar. Maka Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi
wasallam bersabda, “Tutuplah pahamu wahai Ma’mar, karena sesungguhnya
paha itu adalah termasuk aurat.” (HR. Ahmad)
Bahkan didapati pula larangan melihat aurat orang yang sudah mati.
Dari Ali bin Abi Thalib radhiyallahu ‘anhu berkata bahwa Rasulullah
shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam bersabda, “Janganlah kau buka pahamu, dan
janganlah kau melihatnya baik orang yang sudah mati ataupun yang masih
hidup.” (HR. Abu Daud).
