gua tadi. Dan sedikitnya sudah ada 104 penelitian mengenai masalah ini.
Yang paling disoroti dari berbagai situs tersebut adalah gua yang
berada di Yordan. Tepatnya di wilayah ar-Rahib, berada di 1,5 km timur
kota Abu Alanda. Situs bersejarah ini sendiri dikenal dengan nama
ar-Raqim.
Seorang arkeolog, Dr. Muhammad Wahib berkesimpulan bahwa gua yang
berada di situs bersejarah ar-Raqim adalah gua tempat Ashab Al Kahfi
bersembunyi.

Ashab Al Kahfi, antara lain merujuk kepada beberapa periwayatan yang
menyebutkan bahwa beberapa sahabat Rasulullah Shalallahu ‘Alaihi
Wassalam seperti Ubadah bin Shamit, Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan radhiyallahu
‘anhum, pernah melintasi tempat itu di masa kekhalifahan Umar bin
Khaththab, kemudian memasuki gua tersebut.
Beberapa bukti arkeologis juga menguatkan kesimpulan itu. Di surat Al
Kahfi disebutkan,“… Dan mereka mengatakan, ‘dirikanlah bangunan di atas
(gua) mereka. Tuhan mereka lebih mengetahui tentang mereka.’ Dan
orang-orang yang berkuasa atas mereka mengatakan, ’Sesungguhnya kami
akan mendirikan sebuah rumah peribadatan di atasnya.’” (al-Kahfi [18] :
21). Setelah dilakukan penggalian, ditemukan sebuah bangunan yang berada
tepat di atas gua tersebut. Pada awalnya berupa gereja, kemudian tempat
ibadah itu berubah menjadi masjid saat Islam datang.
Ulama Klasik Meneliti
Para ulama muslim klasik ternyata juga telah melakukan penelitian
tentang letak gua tersebut. Tempat yang mereka duga sebagai gua Khfi
berada di Yordan. Penelitian mereka juga menjadi rujukan ilmuwan saat
ini. Beberapa ulama klasik telah berkali-kali mengunjungi gua untuk
melakukan hal yang sama, dengan berpatokan terhadap gerakan matahari di
atas gua. Mereka menilai bahwa kondisi gua Yordan sesuai dengan
ciri-ciri gua Ashab Al Kahfi yang digambarkan al-Qur’an dalam surat Al-
Kahfi ayat ke-17. Diantara mereka adalah Imam al Waqidi. Beliau menilai
bahwa di tempat inilah Ashab Al Kahfi bersembunyi.
Imam al Qurthubi, dalam Jami’li Ahkam Al-Qur’an, juga menyebutkan
bahwa beliau telah mendatangi situs yang terdapat di Yordan ini. Situs
Yordan tersebut lebih tepat dengan gambaran Al-Qur’an yang telah
menunjukkan beberapa ciri gua yang ditempati Ashabul Kahfi.
