 Puasa di Bulan Ramadhan adalah salah satu kewajiban yang harus dilaksanakan oleh umat Muslim. Secara istilah puasa memiliki makna menahan diri dari segala hal yang dapat membatalkan puasa dari terbitnya fajar (subuh) sampai terbenamnya matahari (waktu magrib) dengan niat karena Allah semata.

Adapun syarat-syarat yang harus dilakukan oleh seorang Muslim dalam berpuasa, tujuannya adalah demi kesempurnaan puasa.

Syarat diterimanya puasa adalah tidak melakukan hal yang membatalkan puasa, berikut adalah hal-hal yang dapat membatalkan puasa:

1.     Makan dan minum

Syarat sahnya puasa adalah menahan hawa nafsu, keinginan untuk makan dan minum adalah jenis nafsu yang bisa membatalkan puasa. Makan dan minum dapat membatalkan puasa karena memasukan sesuatu kedalam mulut, tetapi apabila hal ini terjadi secara tidak sengaja maka puasa tetap dikatan sah. 3.     Keluar mani

Keluar mani yang disebabkan oleh bersentuhan kulit dengan lawan jenis dan onani bisa membatalkan puasa, namun keluarnya mani yang disebabkan ihtilam atau mimpi basah tidak membatalkan puasa karena terjadi tanpa sengaja.

4.     Haid atau menstruasi

Seorang yang sedang menjalani puasa lalu ia mengeluarkan darah haid maka puasanya tidak sah. Darah haid adalah darah yang keluar karena siklus hormonal pada wanita

5.     Berhubungan badan

Berhubungan badan pada waktu puasa akan membatalkan puasa. Bagi siapa yang melakukan hubungan badan saat itu diharuskan mengganti puasanya dan juga membayar denda atau kafarat.

6.     Nifas

Nifas adalah darah yang keluar setelah seorang wanita melakukan proses melahirkan. Darah ini akan keluar selama 40 hari setelah melahirkan

7.     Gila (junun)

Puasa dikatakan tidak sah atau batal apabila orang yang menjalani puasa mengalami kondisi ini.

8.     Murtad
Murtad adalah keadaan dimana seorang Muslim keluar dari agama Islam. Orang yang murtad maka puasanya otomatis batal.
